Storm Chase

13Z Day One Outlook
13Z Day One Outlook

Tuesday was forecast to be the biggest severe outbreak in several years in this area. I just missed severe hail on the drive in to work but instead was caught in blindingly heavy rain. With the cold pool from the morning storms would keep development a bit further south, Steve and I left around noon to go storm chasing in Kansas, in a spot in the middle of the day 1 outlook moderate area. A PDS tornado watch was issued for parts of Oklahoma and Texas and severe thunderstorm warnings were being issued in Kansas by the time we were in a good spot in southern Kansas. While a number of storms did drop large hail and strong winds, there were few tornadoes, mostly in Oklahoma. We witnessed some spectacular lightning nd the picturesque rolling green hills.
