Tesla Model SSat, Feb 27, 2016
Shortly before Christmas this past December, I visited the Tesla showroom at Country Club Plaza here in Kansas City. Like many I had been reading about the Model S for years, with its all electric propulsion, low environmental impact, sports car performance, good range, and impressive technology. There are lots of high tech touches like automatic headlights with auto high beams, automatic windshield wipers, traffic sensing cruise control, autopark, and LTE. Earlier in 2015, the company unveiled Autopilot, a feature which allows the car to steer itself on highways. The test drive was as amazing as I had pictured and I quickly put down a deposit.
This past Thursday I picked up the new car at the service center. It will take some getting used to, particularly the large size of it, as well as the strong regenerative breaking upon releasing the accelerator. Already in the first few days I have led tours and watched as people match speeds on the freeway to check it out. The range should be such that overnight home charging like a cell phone is more than enough for daily driving while eliminating the need to visit a gas station.
